A few weeks ago I was given the opportunity to talk to Will Smith at Stray FM about the power of connection through the written word. If you missed it, here's a chance to listen again. Click on the play button below and make sure you have your sound up!
As I mention in my interview, I was inspired by an appeal from my local hospital earlier in lockdown for publishers to donate cards. I donated 70 of my blank Yorkshire and floral greetings cards, both for the Harrogate hospital staff shop and also sadly for patients to sadly write messages to their families. Closer to home, my Great Aunt has just turned 100 and has been isolating alone. She is usually active and sociable, so she is missing going out and seeing friends and family.
This got me thinking about the need for connection, even though we are physically distanced. This is particularly important for the older generation, many of whom do not use virtual technology and may also be isolating alone. I wanted to do something to help and I decided to launch a handwritten calligraphy service for my cards, with the option for customers to upload a photo to be printed and included inside. I take care of the delivery too, with free first class postage included in the price.
